Anthony Scaramucci, the founder of SkyBridge Capital, appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box and stressed the need for Democrats and Republicans to unite and regulate Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

Anthony Scaramucci clarifies the political debate

Anthony Scaramucci stressed in the interview the need for bipartisan support to regulate Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Scaramucci emphasized that collaborative efforts from both political parties are essential to establish a balanced regulatory framework for the thriving cryptocurrency industry.

This trend is evident with the recent passage of the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act by the U.S. House of Representatives, with support from both Democrats and Republicans.

However, he particularly disapproved of the “Gary GenslerElizabeth Warren, who sees the “anti-crypto” approach as counterproductive to the growth of the industry.

“We need to make Bitcoin and the regulation around blockchain and cryptocurrency bipartisan,” Scaramucci said.

He highlighted ongoing discussions with White House officials, alongside prominent figures like Mark Cuban and Michael Novogratz, to address the risks associated with the current regulatory approach, which he described as anti-crypto.

Scaramucci claimed that the recent market volatility was due to the German government unloading large amounts of bitcoins and putting about $9 billion worth of bitcoins into circulation. He maintains a positive view of the digital currency if and only if a bipartisan approach to its regulation is put in place.

Political Influence on Bitcoin Regulation

Scaramucci noted that politicians, including U.S. Vice President Kamala Harriscould positively influence Bitcoin regulation. He said that in the next election, if Harris wins, she could take a middle position on Bitcoin regulation.

He said,

“If Vice President Harris wins the election, I think she will move to the center on Bitcoin regulation.”

He also praised former President Donald Trump for the change, noting that Trump’s positive sentiments toward cryptocurrencies prompted Democrats to reconsider their stance. Scaramucci appreciated that Trump changed the Democratic approach to regulating cryptocurrencies and called on younger Democrats to take a fairer stance.

Scaramucci also discussed the growing adoption of Bitcoin by institutions as an investment asset. Comparing the situation to the gradual emergence of other revolutionary services like Uber, he argued that the same could happen to Bitcoin. He highlighted the growing interest of institutional investors, citing the state of Wisconsin’s significant investment in Bitcoin and Jersey City’s move to Bitcoin ETFs.

Next Bitcoin Conference 2024

Scaramucci and former President Trump are expected to speak at the Bitcoin Conference 2024 this weekend. Speculation suggests that Trump could discuss plans for a strategic reserve of Bitcoin, further legitimizing Bitcoin as an asset class in the eyes of the U.S. government.

This year, Vice President Kamala Harris was also supposed to attend the conference, but due to her schedule, she was unable to attend. Scaramucci said, “It’s a setback for her, she should have been there, but she wasn’t; nevertheless, I understand why she wasn’t there.”

Earlier in the week, Scaramucci took to Twitter to calm the crypto community, claiming that Harris supports cryptocurrencies. He noted that it would be wrong to interpret Harris’ absence from the Bitcoin conference as hostility toward the industry.

Scaramucci said that

“Gensler will be fired and Warren will be sidelined as the head of financial services in a Harris administration. Let’s keep crypto bipartisan; it will be healthier for the ecosystem in the long run.”
