Billionaire Tech CEO Michael Dell Signals Interest in Bitcoin via Michael Saylor Retweet
Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies (DELL), with a market capitalization of more than $100 billion, has shown at least vague interest in bitcoin (BTC)circulating a pro-BTC post on X by Bitcoin evangelist Michael Saylor.
It started on Thursday when Dell posted, “Scarcity creates value.” This prompted a Saylor’s responsethe executive chairman of MicroStrategy (MSTR), stating, “Bitcoin is digital scarcity,” which Dell later reposted.
The exchange didn’t end there, with Dell subsequent publication an image of the Cookie Monster from Sesame Street that has been digitally altered (apparently from Saylor) to show the famous child character devouring bitcoins instead of cookies.
As the first CEO and now executive chairman of MicroStrategy, Saylor not only led the company to the acquisition of 226,331 bitcoins worth $15 billion over the past nearly four years (the last of which was the acquisition of 11,900 BTC just this week), but also encouraged other companies to follow suit with their own balance sheets.
At this point, only a small number of other companies have seen fit to make bitcoin part of their treasury strategies, and none come even close to the scale of what Saylor has done with MicroStrategy.
According to a recent filing, Dell had $34.6 billion in current assets on its balance sheet as of May 3, including $5.8 billion in cash and cash equivalents. Bitcoin is not mentioned.
