It included the leading crypto email provider
Cryptocurrency users have been warned to remain vigilant amid ongoing supply chain attacks targeting the digital asset industry via email newsletters.
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether alerted users to a compromised email provider used by several digital asset service providers. The identity of the seller has not been revealed and the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.
CoinGecko co-founder and COO Bobby Ong confirmed that the same breach occurred. Ardoino and NGOs have warned that a flurry of phishing email scams promoting the distribution of malicious airdrops or the flipping of tokens could soon target users.
“There is no CoinGecko token planned, so don’t be fooled by phishing emails,” Ong said on X. Some users on social media have also reported shady messages from providers like Binance. Additionally, crypto.news confirmed that cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex was among the affected companies.

The problem of cryptophishing is not new
Like other participants in the digital space, users of digital assets have faced ongoing attacks from bad actors attempting to gain access and steal funds. A similar case occurred in January, when several company emails, including those of Cointelegraph, TrezorToken Terminal, WalletConnect and others were hijacked.
Nansen Customers reported phishing emails last November after a leak from third-party vendors. In early 2023, scammers hacked the Namecheap domain registrar and bombed MetaMask users with malicious emails.
Security experts and veterans have also called on platforms like Google to harden their systems against bad actors who prey on unsuspecting users and victims.
