Pro-Crypto Ohio Senator JD Vance Is Donald Trump’s Pick for Vice President
Former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for U.S. president, has announced that he has selected crypto-friendly Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his vice-presidential running mate.
“After much thought and consideration, and considering the extraordinary talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the office of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the great state of Ohio,” Trump wrote on the social media app TruthSocial.
“JD has had a very successful business career in technology and finance, and now, during the campaign, he will focus heavily on the people he fought so brilliantly for, America’s workers and farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and so much more.”
Odds of Vance being named vice president on cryptocurrency prediction market platform Polymarket was at 70% on Monday, by far the highest among all competitors.
The “Hillbilly Elegy” author and venture capitalist has been a popular choice among cryptocurrency industry leaders, given his previous efforts to push for clearer legislation. He recently drafted a bill that would revamp the way the U.S. regulates digital assets, Second Politicianwhich according to some sources would be even more favorable to cryptocurrencies than a bill approved by the House in June.
North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio were also considered likely candidates to be Trump’s running mate, but were reportedly informed Monday morning that they were out of the race.
In his most recent financial disclosure to the Senate, Vance did not disclose whether he had bought or sold cryptocurrency, although he did disclose in 2022 that he held between $100,000 and $250,000 in bitcoin.
