SEC’s Hester Peirce calls for clear crypto regulation
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner Hester Peirce, known as “Crypto Mom” due to her support of the cryptocurrency industry, has called for clear regulatory frameworks and sensible to drive innovation and bring clarity to crypto developers.
Speaking at the ETHDenver conference, Peirce highlighted the challenges the sector faces due to regulatory ambiguity, which she said is driving crypto companies and business activities overseas.
His comments come amid criticism from industry executives of the agency’s enforcement approach and pressure from the House Financial Services Committee to restrict SEC oversight of the industry of cryptography.
The SEC’s approach was also called into question by a report from the Government Accountability Office, raising concerns about the authority of the SEC and the enactment of Staff Accounting Bill 121 without proper consultation.
