Trump vows to help ‘Silk Road’ founder convicted in cryptocurrency appeal
Donald Trump has asked to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the online marketplace Silk Road, in an attempt to position himself as a pro-cryptocurrency candidate in the eyes of libertarian voters.
Ulbricht, 40, is serving a life sentence after being convicted in 2015 of running Silk Road, where customers used Bitcoin and other virtual currencies to buy illegal drugs and hacker tools, from 2011 to October 2013.
