VanEck CEO Says Bitcoin Makes Up ‘Well Over 30%’ of His Portfolio
Jan van Eck, CEO of investment management firm VanEck, reiterated his bullish stance on Bitcoin, saying at Bitcoin 2024 that “well over 30%” of his portfolio is in Bitcoin.
VanEck CEO declared who sees Bitcoin (BTC) as an evolving asset class, comparing its current phase to the “adolescent phase.” According to van Eck, BTC has yet to attract many classes of investors, but he thinks it’s only a matter of time before they join.
Underlining his bullish view on the benchmark asset, van Eck said he doesn’t understand why one would constantly sell if one believes in the bullish thesis for Bitcoin.
“The hardest question I ask myself when it comes to allocations, and I know a lot of people think about this, is ‘Why would I sell bitcoin if I believe in a super bull case?’” van Eck said at the Bitcoin 2024 conference on Friday.

The VanEck CEO also discussed a scenario where Bitcoin could rise to $3 million per coin if it were adopted as a global reserve asset. While speculative, the forecast considers the potential for the flagship crypto asset to see unprecedented adoption around the world.
“Everyone I meet at Bitcoin conferences has a lot more in their wallet, and I always say, wait a minute, I always want to tell people what I’m doing personally because they should know,” van Eck said.
Asked what he was doing with his portfolio, van Eck said he “owns well over 30%.”
Van Eck’s comments on Bitcoin 2024 come as the conference gears up for a highly anticipated keynote speech from the former US president and current Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Trump will highlight the convention currently underway in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 27.
