Pairpoint, the result of a partnership between Vodafone and the Japanese Sumitomo Corporation, has collaborated with Sensos for To explore the feasibility of a blockchain-based smart label functionality. Sensos, launched in 2022, is a subsidiary of Sony Semiconductor Israel with considerable industry experience despite having been in operation for less than three years.

The collaboration between Pairpoint and Sensos will see both entities leverage their respective strengths to launch a viable product to revolutionize the supply chain landscape in the coming months.

For starters, the partnership will use Sensos’ Internet of Things (IoT) tracking solution, which uses its smart label, to ensure efficiency supply chain processes. The solution, paired with an AI-powered control tower, will allow the offering to collect data and issue real-time alerts to customers without increasing operational costs.

“Using Sensos’ cellular tracking labels and AI-powered control tower to detect anomalies in the supply chain together with Pairpoint’s digital identity, trust and transactional platform, all goods movements, from departures from lead to final deliveries, they can be recorded securely and immutably,” read a statement.

The partnership with Pairpoint will bring blockchain into the mix to secure transparency and immutability of data. Pairpoint’s parent company, Vodafonehas made great strides with blockchain, launching its Digital Asset Broker trading platform with a heavy capital injection from Sumitomo.

According to the statement, the offering will require a printable sensor device on top of Sensos’ underlying supply chain solution and Pairpoint’s blockchain-based platform to make logistics transactions tamper-proof.

“Technology powers superior supply chain management along with deep insight and a strong solution,” said Osi Tagger, CEO of Unilog. “By using numerous partners, we are able to offer customers a full set of robust services that build on the strong Sensos and Pairpoint alliance.”

Up to my neck, immersed in the experience

All players in the industry have accumulated a wealth of experience in recent years, with Pairpoint’s parent companies, Vodafone and Sumitomo, having invested almost $100 million in blockchain research. Japan’s Sumitomo is testing the waters tokenization while Sony has committed blockchain-based games and metaverse.

Sensors’ intelligent labeling solution has been used in the pharmaceutical sector together with Bayer, achieving excellent results following integration by supply chain giant DB Schenker. Experts are of the opinion that cross-pollination with DLT will open up new possibilities for Sensos while improving processes in the vertical supply chain.
